India Gets Its First Dedicated Chip Water Lab

A new Kurita-backed joint venture opens a testing center built solely for semiconductor water needs.

Membrane Group India and Kurita Water Industries announced in early July the launch of Kurita Membrane India, a joint venture that will operate a dedicated Ultrapure Water Analysis Center. The facility is built specifically to support semiconductor and electronics manufacturers with advanced water quality testing and process optimization, marking a departure from general purpose industrial water labs.

The venture pairs Kurita's ultrapure water production technology, refined across decades of deployments in Japan and other established fab hubs, with Membrane Group's engineering and manufacturing capabilities built for the Indian market. Kurita holds fifty one percent of the joint venture, with Membrane Group holding the remainder.

Its offering spans ultrapure water systems, wastewater reclamation and reuse, resource recovery, and zero liquid discharge, delivered as an integrated technical package rather than standalone equipment sales. That bundling reflects a wider preference among fabs for fewer vendors managing more of the water cycle.

The analysis center functions as the technical backbone of that offering. Rather than sending samples to third party labs and waiting on results, fabs get faster feedback on water quality parameters tied directly to production continuity, with support for ongoing optimization that extends well past initial commissioning.
